The Art Group Exhibition “PREVENTION through ART” will be inaugurated on Wednesday October 5th, 2016, at 8 p.m., at Fokionos Negri 16. The exhibition is curated by Konstantinos Vafiadis and it will last until October 23rd.
October was established worldwide as “the month of prevention and awareness regarding breast cancer”. Breast cancer is a form of cancer that can be cured as long as it is detected at an early stage, making much more urgent the need of an early diagnosis.
Last October’s art project via internet is transformed into an Art Group Exhibition in which contemporary artists participate. Meanwhile Mr. Sotiris Felios presents from his art collection a work of the art painter Alexia Marouli.
The participant artists are:
Magda Apostolou // Konstantinos Vafiadis // Anastasia Ginaki // Loukia Dragatsi // Angela Karalis // Penny Konstantinou // Vassiliki Bloukou // Aggeliki Bobori // Dimitris Pantazis // Giorgos Papadimitriou // Sofia Papadopoulou // Alexandra Petranaki // Sofia Stavrou // Maria Filippakopoulou //  Aristidis Chrysanthopoulos
The exhibition’s topic is accompanied by the thoughts of mr. Sotiris Felios, stated below:

Angela Karalis “Concetration”
“You can’t tell the others to be courageous. I can tell that only to myself. But you can be close to the others and this is not excluded from being love and at the same time courage. Painting can offer emotion and sometimes it can lead us to magic – as it is defined – individually our heart’s desire or our spirit’s that can overrule logic”.
Dr. Konstantinos Vafiadis, Art historian, researcher of Athens University and artist himself notes:
“The Disease constitutes a painful experience but also a threat that doubts first and mainly every certainty. Nevertheless this threat has a revealing power at the philosophical but also at an experimental level. This happens because it portrays the truth of the world, the history and the personal and collective being. It also constitutes a tool for the redetermination of the individuality in space and time. Consequently the prevention of the disease shouldn’t be related to a system of precautionary medical examinations but to a redetermination of our being which can’t be conceived by rule. And it is true that art contributes to this even more effectively than any other spiritual activity.
A compilation of artworks exhibited in this catalogue measures itself with the fact of the Disease as a problem of our existence. Every painting looks like a gate through which the spectator enters a compact experimental space with reference to the threatening consequences of the Disease. At the same time the art exhibited here imposes the Disease as a life crisis. Its liberating power states once more that death doesn’t exist but only as a change of Names. Anyway art is Life and Life means an urge for the conquest of Truth and Truth is the conscience of our boundaries.
Every hindrance pain and illness tends to restrain the already limited and changeable boundaries at our life, co-intersecting our creative vision and action. Therefore the Disease demands above all action, as actions promote healing and restoration of the disturbed boundaries of our being.”
