Waiting room Psychoulis
Inaugurating the first, essentially new exhibition of 2021, we hope and wish its smooth continuation.
Alexandros Psychoulis opens his solo show entitled “Waiting Room“. An exhibition–commentary on the situation we have experienced.
How well do we direct ourselves in the current communication situations?
When we do not hide half of our face behind a mask, it usually means that we are in our safe private space where we can hide three quarters of our body and publicly display our digital busts in video conferencing rooms where our work and our social gatherings take place.
In these conditions of concealment, exposure and fragmentation of our personal image, Alexandros Psychoulis completes a new cycle of works entitled “WAITING ROOM“. The exhibition consists of a number of portraits, watercolor paintings of people that the artist meets virtually.
The “WAITING ROOM“ with the vehicle of the timelessness of the language of painting seeks the extent of our image beyond the flat screens of computers. The color range of the digital image; the software malfunctions; the pixel distortions; the momentary collapse of our self-direction; a narcissistic concern about how others see us and how we see ourselves in the digital mirror, are the intangible raw materials that Psychoulis uses to structure a penetrating psychograph of a time during which our vital desires have been postponed indefinitely.
