kaplanon galleries (ena Art Gallery) present from the 17^th of October 2017 the painting exhibition of Αchileas Pistonis and Dimitris Angelopoulos entitled “Unravelling the figure” curated by Hektor Papadakis, professor at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts of the University of Western Macedonia. This exhibition constitutes a bold attempt to explore-through the juxtaposition of the work of two artists linked by the teacher –student relationship- of the greater issues that have been at the center of endless debates among art scholars and artists regarding figurative art’s contemporaneity and its capacity to capable of remain up to date, an efficient means of expression for humanity’s current problems and ideas, a reliable imprint of new aesthetic searches. It is in this context that the exhibition seeks to focus on the way human figure can be seen as the metaphor for a wider social and artistic reflection. Both artists, by choosing to place at the forefront of their artistic creation the human figure, consciously built a modern narrative based on a means that today has often been considered “obsolete” proving that figurative art is as modern as ever.

To sum up, this exhibition aims to elucidate the multi-levelled dynamic presence of human figure in contemporary painting through the work of a pair of painters who attempt, by re-examining both its role and symbolism, to give it a new life.

The exhibition, which launces on October the 17th and will run until November the 11th, is supported by INTERAMERICAN as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and its active interest in visual arts.
