Athens School of Fine Arts
20 Students of the Visual Arts department and 11 students from the Theory and History of Art department of the postgraduate sections of the Athens School of Fine Arts present:
OPENSTUDIOS 2018 || Athens School of Fine Arts
“The process of creation, how a work is done, this is the content of art” Josef Albers
For second consecutive year, the postgraduate students of the Visual Arts department, open the door of their studios to the public for three days; this year for the first time in collaboration with the postgraduate students of the Theory and History of Art department of the Athens School of Fine Arts. This is an initiative of the students, for a joint collaboration between the two postgraduate departments of the School, which aims to create a fruitful dialogue between the artistic process and the curatorial practice.
The studio of the artist according to mythology and art history is mainly referred to as the place of concentration and meditation, as the place where the miracle of creation takes place. It is a place unreachable for the many, it is the sanctuary where only a few exclusive guests can enter. Furthermore, the studio has also been a place of teaching and apprenticeship of art, a meeting place for discussion and negotiation, a place for exhibiting artworks and even buying and selling them.
In the 16 working-studios of the postgraduate students, the visitor will be able to see the way in which each artist works. Each one of the studios is representative of the artist’s personality and the uniqueness of his style. The purpose of OpenStudios is to make the process followed by each artist apparent, before the work of art has taken its final form. The peculiarity of such a visit lies in the extroversion of the studios, which reveal varied concepts of creativity in a space of daily coexistence.
In the context of this partnership, students of the Theory and History department support theoretically the works presented at each studio having discussed in depth with the artists themselves. All participants will attend the three-day event to discuss with the public.
