LOVE at First Sight

After two years, the world famous, BLANK WALL GALLERY, known for its excellent Greek and International Exhibitions, has the honor to host on its premises, for a second time, a group exhibition of painting, sculpture and photography, by the name:  «Love @ First Sight».  The exhibition opening will begin on Valentine’s Day – the international celebration date for all lovers.

The exhibition is curated by the Art Historian, Mrs. Olga Latousakis, while Mr. Dimitris Lazarou has the responsibility for the concept, organization and communication of the exhibition.

As an Art Historian, Mrs. Olga Latousakis will be presenting a text with all the important points about the ancient Greek remark on Love:  “ἐκ τοῦ ὁρᾶν τίκτεται τό ἐρᾶν”, meaning, “Love is born at a glance”,

But what is really love?  And if there is truly a definition of its existence, is it valued equally by each and one of us?  For what it was actually worth in the Soul of Casanova? What was his criteria?  How did it feel for the characters in Klimt’s “Kiss”.  Was it determined from the same aspect by Rodin in his “Lovers” ?

What kind of feelings did the couple in Toulouse shared in Lautrec’s “Kiss in Bed”?

Over the centuries, artists have captured love in their work in all its forms.  Bernini’s, ancient Greek god Apollo, is captured madly in love with naiad Daphne.  Could his desperation be the same with the desperation that Lytra expressed in his “Kiss” ?

Therefore, the concept of love is unique as an imprint.

It does not require specific characteristics and measurements.  Love in Renaissance, Expressionists Love, Surreal Love, Homosexual and Heterosexual Love, apart from being imprinted on the canvas, also makes the cold marble melt.  It harnesses the wild texture of the wood and gives fervor and movement to the metal.

Love can stem from the immense admiration for a man, for nature for an idea, even for a material object.  Despite tensions and constant agony, love will always be the driving force of our existence.
