Get it? Get it? Get it? // Sotiris Fokeas
KROMA – International Art & Culture Platform continues its Art Project “KROMA One-Off: One Day Exhibitions“.
The exhibition as well as the title “Get it? Get it? Get it?” comments on the need artists have to become understood as well as the belief that art should be considered as something momentous. At the same time, its a self-referring about if the viewer understands the artist’s jokes.
Sotiris Fokeas’ work, is inspired by internet’s humor, has a lighter and more relaxed approach and defies the belief that art should only refer to the small community of “art people”.
“Every piece is a comment or a note, that invites the viewer to read, without implying that they are something more that what they truly are. Doodles, DYI robot, physical pixel art and stuff made along with friends. All works were created with the intention that the viewer enjoys them as much as the artist did while creating them.”
During each KROMA One-Off there is a free educational program for children, based on the exhibition and its works. The children get to meet the artist and discuss with them. They learn the techniques used and have the opportunity to use their imagination, to create their own unique artwork. The training program is in collaboration with Άπειρον – Apeiron.
KROMA conducts a social awareness and solidarity program, implementing the following side actions:
• In association with Shedia street magazine. There will be an accredited person selling issue #57.
• In association with Diavazo gia tous allous (I read for you) nonprofit network. Volunteers will be informing the visitors about the social actions of the network. There will be printed leaflets as well for more information.
For each KROMA One-Off event, a limited number of collectible pamphlets are printed and distributed.
Sotiris Fokeas (aka @Soteur) was born in 1989 in Athens, where he lives.
His first contact with art was through graffiti and street art and at the age of 18, he got accepted into the Athens School of Fine Arts were he studied under Tasos Christakis and Marios Spiliopoulos.
His work evolved around conceptual art, installations, video and he worked in teams and collectives, exhibiting in Greece and abroad.
After a 5 year break were he worked for marketing, he decided to return and focus on becoming a full time artist.
He claims he is an “internet kid”, that “art is better done while having fun with friends” and whenever he is asked to explain a piece of his he replies “I have no idea guys, I just had fun making it”.
PS: He is the one who wrote this description as well, so he decided to print it and exhibit it wherever possible.
