Inferno-Purgatorio-Paradiso

 

The exhibition titled: “Inferno-Purgatorio-Paradiso” concerns the historical matter of depicting the space (flatness-perspective) inspired by Dante’s Alighieri “ La Divina Commedia”. It consists of visual art works and constructions (banners, book etc) , on the one hand based on the Middle Ages (mural paintings, manuscripts) and the Action painting (abstract expressionism-20 th c) on the other. Therefore, the main theme becomes History of Art itself. The materials which are used are the following: oils, dry pastels, indian ink, varnish, graphite, powders, charcoal( on paper and on canvas), wood, sateen and concrete (for the costructions)

Matina Stavropoulou was born in Athens. In 1990 she graduated from Aristotle university of Thessaloniki ( department of Fine and Applied Arts) . She continued her studies in Fac des Lettres , Poitiers (France) in 1991 . She has participated in several group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. The most exceptional of them are the following: 1993΄ Dialogues’ Paris ( France) ,2007 ‘Birthplace’, Benaki Museum , Athens, 2008 ‘Dionysius Solomos’, Judecca Venice ,( Italy) As for her personal exhibitions, the most exceptional are :1993 Bologna ( Italy),1993 Saint Etienne,(France),2020 Visual and Materialized Perception, Municipal Art Gallery of Piraeus .Since 1994 she is collaborating with Gallery 7, where she exhibits personally until today .In overall ,she has participated 8 times in Art Athina and she has exhibited 19 times with this collaborator ( last exhibition : November 2020, “Inferno-Purgatorio-Paradiso” / visual performance YUKI with the multi organizer musician George Katsanos (November 2018). Her works belong to French Institute of Thessaloniki , Municipality of Niort ( France) and to personal collections in Greece and abroad . She lives and works in Athens .
