Fellowship Program – Open Call
ARTWORKS, a new organization that aims to provide financial aid to Greek artists, aged 25 to 35, and encourage their professional development, has launched its operation with a founding grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
The fellowship program began with the SNF’s Recharging The Youth grant initiative, which focuses on supporting and empowering Greece’s younger generation, by opening up new opportunities for training and acquiring skills, aiming to build on counterpart programs implemented abroad and transfer best practices for the benefit of artists in Greece.
The SNF Artist Fellowship Program is designed to provide financial support for young artists and offer opportunities for career development. ARTWORKS will launch the Program with a pilot project that will support artists between the ages of 25-35 working in the following disciplines:
- Fine Arts: painting, sculpture, engraving, photography, installations, performance, video art, mixed and new media, digital art
- Moving Image: feature films, documentaries, animation
Each Fellow will receive a 6,000€ award to work over a period of six-months, from March to September 2018. The award will be paid in two equal installments, at the beginning and the end of the Program. During the course of the Program, ARTWORKS staff will organize regular events with art professionals and experts, in the interest of exchanging ideas and expertise and will encourage the participants to share their work in-progress. The Fellows are expected to participate actively in the Program and will be required to report twice on the development of their artistic practice. The second report will be submitted at the end of the Program and will include work samples from the final artworks produced during the period of the Fellowship.
Following the first year’s pilot project, ARTWORKS aspires to increase the number of beneficiaries and support artists from other disciplines as well.
For the SNF Artist Fellowship Program March – September 2018, artists working in the fields of fine arts and moving image as described above are eligible to apply under the following conditions:

All eligible candidates will be able to submit their applications through a dedicated online form hosted at art-works.gr. Each candidate may only apply either in the Fine Arts or the Moving Image category. Applications are welcome between 5 January 2018 and 26 January 2018.
In order to complete the application form, the candidates are required to provide personal information, a detailed resume, an artist statement, work samples (portfolio) and describe their interest for participating in the Program. Proof of eligibility evidence will also be asked.
The SNF Artist Fellowship awardees will be selected through a rigorous process involving experts, scholars, artists and administrators. The selection consists of two stages.
- Ιn the first stage, successfully submitted applications will be assessed on the basis of the eligibility criteria and participation requirements.
- In the next stage, applications will be rated and ranked by Committees of field experts.
The Selection Committee members will freely evaluate the applications according to their opinion, by examining the artists’ technical skills, the aesthetic quality of their work samples, as well as their motivation to participate in the Program.
The finalists will be notified by e-mail no later than 15 March 2018.

Apart from financial support, the Program will offer free seminars and workshops to stimulate dialogue and creativity. The goal is to create a dynamic alumni network, a support system that will promote interaction among artists, communities and institutions.
